Philips has launched a new feature phone that's been designed for senior citizens. Called the Philips Xenium X2566, the handset is available in the market at Rs. 3,800 (MRP Rs. 5,537).

The firm says the Xenium X2566 feature phone bears a large font size and long battery life, and is thus ideal for the aged user. It also includes a magnifier to enlarge the words on the screen along with a flashlight. The "crystal double colour injection moulding technology" of the handset is said to help retain new look of the phone for longer.

Users can also set three SOS numbers on the smartphone for emergency contacts. On pressing the dedicated SOS button, the handset makes a call on all three numbers at once until one of the parties picks up the call. The Xenium X2566 also bears large hardware keys, for ease of use.

As for specifications, the dual-SIM supporting handset sports a 2.4-inch TFT screen with (240x320 pixels) resolution. A VGA resolution (480x640 pixels) rear camera is housed on the handset alongside an inbuilt storage of 16GB, which can be expanded via a microSD card. Connectivity options on the Xenium X2566 include GPRS/ EDGE, Bluetooth v2.1 and Mini-USB.

The Xenium X2566 feature phone is powered by a 1630mAh Li-ion battery, which the company claims can offer up to 1128 hours standby time and up to 24 hours talk time. Measuring 124.5x64.9x16mm, the handset weighs 108.8 grams and is available in Blue only.

"Philips has always pioneered in cutting-edge innovations that matter to our customers. With changing lifestyles in metros in India and increasing incident of elderly abuse, senior citizens are often left to support themselves by choice or otherwise. We specially designed this phone to make technology more accessible to and user-friendly for the elderly with minimum intervention from others," stated S.S. Bassi, Country Manager - SAARC, Sangfei Mobility in a press statement.

Philips in August launched two smartphones, namely the Philips S388 and Philips I928 for Rs. 38,538 and Rs. 13,694 respectively. Both the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean-based smartphones feature dual-SIM support and 3G connectivity.

Some of the key features of the Philips I928 include a 6-inch full-HD display, a 1.7GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, 16GB of inbuilt storage which can be further expanded via microSD card (up to 32GB), and a 3300mAh Li-ion battery.

The Philips S388 on the other hand features a 4.5-inch qHD (540x960 pixel) IPS display, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera, support for up to 32GB of storage via a microSD card, and a 1700mAh Li-ion battery.
