As part of its second anniversary celebrations, Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus announced on Thursday that it is scrapping the invitation system that was required for purchasing its OnePlus 2 smartphone, and separately, will hold a three-day open sale for the OnePlus X smartphone starting Saturday. The company has clarified to Gadgets 360 that the open sale will not be held in India.
"For India, while the OnePlus 2 will go invite free from midnight of December 5th, the OnePlus X will not go invite free between December 5-7," a spokesperson for OnePlus told Gadgets 360 when discussing the . The company is currently planning an open sale for the OnePlus X smartphone for Indian users, but the plans aren't finalised yet.
To recall, the OnePlus 2 will go invite-free "forever" from Saturday. Users from across the globe will be able to purchase the smartphone without going through the hassle of getting an invite starting Saturday. As for the OnePlus 2 sale in India, the handset will go invite free starting midnight Friday, the company added.
The OnePlus X was launched in India in October, with the Onyx variant priced at Rs. 16,999, and the limited edition Ceramic variant priced at Rs. 22,999. It sports a 5-inch full-HD (1920x1080 pixels) display. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 801 quad-core SoC clocked at 2.3GHz and 3GB of RAM.
Other features of the OnePlus include 16GB of built-in storage expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB), a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front facing snapper, and a 2525mAh non-removable battery. The dual-SIM capable smartphone supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and other standard connectivity features.
