The announcement comes directly from 2 OnePlus executives named Carl and David, who confirmed the One's successor during an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit on Monday.
According to Carl, the OnePlus 2 smartphone can be expected to be launched in Q2 or Q3 of 2015 and is also likely to be smaller than the One smartphone.
Here is the excerpt from the AMA session

- How soon will a "OnePlus Two" (or whatever) be available with an ARMv8 processor and Android L? Would you say more like spring or fall 2015?
- I've seen a lot of people complain about the size. Maybe you should consider making a 4.7"-5" version, too.

- OnePlus 2 should be out in Q2 or Q3 of 2015. We've seen a lot of people asking for a smaller device, and want to let everyone know that we hear you. We're thinking about it.
Carl also tipped that the OnePlus 2 smartphone would probably run the yet-to-be-released Android L build of the OS. He said, "By that time, I'd think Android L would be standard."
Rumours about a possible successor to the OnePlus One smartphone have been around for some time. Prolific phone tipster @evleaks (now retired) had claimed that the company was working on OnePlus One smartphone's successor, thought to be dubbed OnePlus Two.
However, the company had then put an end to all speculation around a successor to the One smartphone, saying, "We're just working on the OnePlus One for 2014."
The OnePlus One, after a slight delay due to a last minute software update, started shipping to users with invites in mid-June. The OnePlus One was unveiled in April with the company announcing a Q2 release. The biggest new feature being touted on the One is that it runs CyanogenMod 11S, with the 'S' signifying the customisation for the One smartphone. Notably, CyanogenMod 11S is based on Android 4.4 KitKat.
Last month, the company on its official forum revealed its intentions for the Indian market. Carl, an administrator of the forum had in the post titled "Baby Steps" also claimed that India ranked number 8 on the company's top launch countries list for the OnePlus One.
