OnePlus 5T launch is set for today, with the Chinese manufacturer's latest flagship due for a 9:30pm IST unveiling at its New York event. There are have been dozens of OnePlus 5T leaks and rumours in the run up to the launch, and here is one more just ahead of tonight's revelation. A new report has joined the ongoing rumour mill, pointing to a limited Star Wars Edition OnePlus 5T variant. The smartphone has also surfaced online once again - in a new unboxing video that details its software.
An XDA Developers contributor has found strings of code in a leaked build of Android Oreo for the OnePlus 5 that tips the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition variant, however, the report has been pulled at the time of filing - though a web cache of the article is available. The XDA Developers report, after decompiling SystemUI, Settings, and Launcher APKs, found "DEVICE_CUSTOM_STAR_WARS" and hints of a Star Wars-flavoured accent colour with "accent_star_wars" and "customization_workspace_star_wars".
It makes sense for OnePlus to launch the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition sometime around the arrival of Star Wars: The Last Jedi that is set for release next month. The Shenzhen-based company might partner with Disney for the new version of its upcoming handset. However, formal details about the development aren't yet announced.
Previously, OnePlus brought the Black Colette Limited Edition of the OnePlus 3T and a "Castelbajac" variant of the OnePlus 5. But both the editions were limited to certain regions. Therefore, the Star Wars Edition, if it's in works, is likely to be limited to the US market.
In addition to its limited edition, OnePlus 5T appeared in the new unboxing video that has been removed from YouTube by its Spanish uploader. Nevertheless, folks at PhoneArena reports that the video details the edge-to-edge display of the new OnePlus smartphone and confirms the presence of Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
OnePlus is launching the OnePlus 5T on Thursday evening at an event in New York City. Just in a week after official launch, the smartphone will come to India and will go on sale for Amazon Prime members starting November 21.
