After teasing the launch of a new colour variant for days, OnePlus finally launched the Soft Gold Limited Edition colour variant of OnePlus 5 smartphone in India on Monday. Notably, the company has only introduced the Soft Gold colour variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB built-in storage configuration and not the 8GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage combo. The new colour variant will be available for purchase through Amazon India and company's own website starting 12am on Wednesday, August 9, at Rs. 32,999. As can be expected thanks to the name, the new colour variant of the smartphone will only be available in limited stocks.

Commenting on the launch of the Soft Gold colour variant of OnePlus 5, Vikas Agarwal, General Manager at OnePlus India, was quoted saying "As a maker of the most beautifully designed smartphones, it gives us immense joy to introduce the latest OnePlus 5 with even more refined and elegant Soft Gold finish this festival season. The latest OnePlus 5 Soft Gold will appeal to those who are looking for the perfect balance of beautiful design and powerful features."

With the latest launch, OnePlus 5 variant with 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage will be available in Slate Gray and Soft Gold colours. Interestingly, the 8GB RAM variant of OnePlus 5, which was earlier available in just Midnight Black colour, has also received a new colour option. The company announced in its release that the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant of OnePlus 5 will now be made available in Slate Gray colour as well at Rs. 37,999 - stocks for this variant will become available in the upcoming weeks. This means that the 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant now has two colour options on offer - Slate Gray and Soft Gold, while the 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage also has two colour options on offer - Midnight Black and Slate Gray.

"It takes an average of 180 days to create and perfect a coating of soft gold. Getting a perfectly even and light colour starts with running premium aluminium alloy through a diamond cutter. The surface is then sandblasted and polished with intense precision. Each second matters in this process, or the anodised colour takes on a different shade. It's an extensive process, but the result is worth it- a stunning matte finish, pleasing to see and feel," the company said in its release.

The Soft Gold colour variant and the Slate Gray 8GB RAM variant will also be made available for purchase at the company's OnePlus Experience stores in Bengaluru, Mall of India Noida, and Select Citywalk in New Delhi.

Separately, OnePlus has also introduced three icon packs for OnePlus 5 - standard OnePlus icon pack, OnePlus round icons, and OnePlus square icons, to the Google Play store. While these icon packs come with the OxygenOS build on the OnePlus 5, the introduction to Google Play store indicates that the company plans to update the packs going forward, as pointed out in a report by Android Police.
