After confirming the presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC on its upcoming OnePlus 5 smartphone, the Chinese smartphone-maker has now claimed that the phone will be first flagship in India to feature the aforementioned processor. Notably, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ were launched with Snapdragon 835 SoC in the US as well but were launched with Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC in India last month.
While talking to Gadgets 360 earlier this month, Larry Paulson, VP and President, Qualcomm India confirmed that there are few smartphones with Snapdragon 835 SoC that will be launching soon in the country. "There are some smartphones with Snapdragon 835 set to launch in India but we don't want to steal the thunder of OEMs," Paulson said. Now it turns out that OnePlus is going to be the first among these OEMs to launch their Snapdragon 835 smartphone in India.
What OnePlus 5 Needs to Best iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8
At the OnePlus announcement, Sanjay Mehta, Senior Vice President at Qualcomm, said, "OnePlus creates every smartphone as if it's creating a piece of art and not just making a mass-produced product. All of OnePlus smartphones have so far been powered by premium Snapdragon mobile platforms, ensuring that every generation of OnePlus handsets deliver a powerful performance".
There are currently five smartphones that feature the Snapdragon 835 SoC- the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy S8+, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, Xiaomi Mi 6, and Sharp Aquos R. With the claim, OnePlus seems to be indicating the OnePlus 5 will launch in India before the Xiaomi Mi 6 or Sony Xperia XZ Premium. If true, the move could help the Chinese manufacturer hit the market before Xiaomi, gaining the first mover advantage in terms of sales.
OnePlus and Qualcomm recently confirmed that former's upcoming OnePlus 5 smartphone will feature Snapdragon 835 SoC through a blog post and a tweet respectively. The smartphone will be launched in Summer by the company.
