OnePlus took to Twitter and said, "We've seen price estimates for the #OnePlus2 upwards of $500." The tweet accompanied an image of the company's CEO Pete Lau quoted saying, "I can promise that the OnePlus 2 will be priced under $450."
Notably, this is the first the company has come out with an estimated pricing of its OnePlus 2 smartphone. Previously, the Chinese company had tipped the prices of the OnePlus 2 on two instances - once it suggested that the price of OnePlus 2 would be higher than $322 (roughly Rs. 20,500) or around CNY 1,999. While the second time, OnePlus CEO Liu Zuohu (aka Pete Lau) had hinted the price of the OnePlus 2 price as CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 25,000 or $400).The company further stressed on the pricing of its new OnePlus 2 smartphone in a Google+ post and followed up on its teaser adding, "Honestly, it's never been about the price. We simply make the best smartphones we can, and we go from there." Considering that OnePlus One was dubbed '2014 flagship killer' for the specifications it packed in at very competitive pricing, we can expect its successor to repeat the story this year.
The company has already revealed that its second flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 2, will be launching on July 27 and the announcement will be made at a virtual reality event. The Chinese handset manufacturer until now has confirmed that the OnePlus 2 would feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC, USB Type-C port, and will sport a fingerprint sensor that is claimed to be faster than Apple's iPhone Touch ID sensor.
To recall, the OnePlus One smartphone was launched in April last year and came at a starting price of $299 (unlocked and without contract) for the 16GB model (roughly Rs. 18,300), while the 64GB variant was available at $349 (roughly Rs. 21,350).
Last month, the company gave the OnePlus One smartphone a permanent price cut in the US and eligible European countries. After the price cut, the 16GB Silk White OnePlus One was priced at $249 (roughly Rs. 16,000) in the US, and EUR 249 (roughly Rs. 17,400) in eligible European countries, while the 64GB Sandstone Black OnePlus One was priced at $299 (roughly Rs. 19,000) in the US, and EUR 299 (roughly Rs. 20,800) in Europe.
