Nokia brand licensee HMD Global is said to have crucial smartphone plans for 2018 as the company might be gearing up to launch two new premium phones in its lineup. According to online reports, the Nokia 9 along with the Nokia 8 Pro are likely to make an appearance anytime this year. While both phones are said to sport similar specifications such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoCs, the Nokia 9 might pack in an upgraded penta-lens camera setup.
A report by NokiaPowerUser reveals that HMD's outing at Mobile World Congress 2018 wasn't the end of announcements for the Finnish phone maker's Nokia brand. Two new phones are expected from the Nokia bandwagon in 2018. The report suggests the Nokia 9 will get a bigger, 5.7-inch display compared to the 5.5-inch display on the Nokia 8 Pro. Apart from that, the Nokia 9 is expected to get a heftier price tag that will put it among the ranks of the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S9+.
The report also claims that the Nokia 9 will be the company's first phone to get an in-display fingerprint sensor, however none of these specifications or features have been confirmed yet and need to be taken with a pinch of salt. And, lastly, the Nokia 8 Pro might make an earlier appearance with the Nokia 9 expected to launch in September (around IFA 2018?). Interestingly, the report suggests that the Nokia 8 Sirocco was in fact the 2017 version of the Nokia 9.
HMD Global unveiled four new phones at its keynote ahead of MWC 2018. These include the entry-level Nokia 1, mid-range Nokia 7 Plus, premium Nokia 8 Sirocco, and the retro Nokia 8110 4G.
