Nokia 6 is the latest smartphone to join HMD Global's Android 8.0 Oreo beta bandwagon. Owners of the smartphone can now sign up for the 'Nokia phones beta labs', and receive a beta build of Android Oreo before its stable launch at a later date. To recall, the first smartphone under the company's open beta umbrella was the Nokia 8 in October. Followed by the Nokia 5 just last week.
So, how do you sign up to receive the open beta build of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Nokia 6? Head over to Nokia phones beta labs, and sign up with your Google account. After registering with IMEI number and other details, Nokia 6 users will get an Android 8.0 Oreo software update notification within 12 hours of registration. The update is rolled out over-the-air.
Nokia 6 users should back up their devices before proceeding to install the Android 8.0 Oreo beta update. Notably, users have the option to roll back to Android Nougat if the Oreo beta feels too buggy for them.
With the Android 8.0 Oreo beta update, Nokia 6 users can expect features like Autofill, Picture in Picture, Notification Dots, Google Play Protect security scans, and faster boot times.
"Just one week after the Nokia 5 Android Oreo beta labs programme, we are delighted to offer the same opportunity to Nokia 6 owners. With the Android Oreo beta on the Nokia 6, you can take a first look at amazing new features that improve usability and multi-tasking, while boosting battery life," HMD Global said in a statement about the beta update's availability.
