At the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 India launch event, HMD Global announced the in Delhi saw the three smartphones finally make their debut in the Indian market. However, only the budget Nokia 3 will be available for purchase in the country in June, and consumers will have to wait till July to get their hands on Nokia 6 and Nokia 5. Additionally, all the Nokia phones sold in India will be manufactured in the country, HMD Global announced at the event. Interestingly, the company is following the dual channel strategy in selling its phones, with the Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 being available offline, and Nokia 6 exclusively available via Amazon India.
The Nokia 6 price in India is Rs. 14,999, and registrations for the first sale will start on July 14, but the company has not announced when the smartphone will go on sale. On the other hand, the Nokia 5 price in India is Rs. 12,899, and will be available for pre-booking starting July 7 through offline channels. In a press release, HMD Global said Nokia 5 pre-bookings will be carried out via select mobile retail outlets across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Calicut. Nokia 3, cheapest of the three, will be going on sale at a price of Rs. 9,499, and will be available exclusively via offline retail as well from June 16 without any need of registrations.
Nokia 6 India launch offers include Rs. 1000 cash-back Amazon Prime users when they purchase the device using Amazon Pay balance. Vodafone users will get 10GB data per month at Rs. 249 per month for 5 months on their Nokia 6. All buyers will also get 80 percent off on Kindle eBooks (up to Rs. 300), and Rs. 2500 off on Makemytrip.com (Rs. 1800 on hotels & Rs.700 off on domestic flights).
As for Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 launch offers, Vodafone customers will get 5GB data per month at Rs. 149 per month for 3 months on the smartphone. As with Nokia 6, buyers of these two Nokia Android phones will also get Rs. 2500 off (Rs. 1800 on hotels & Rs.700 off on domestic flights) on Makemytrip.com.
Nokia 6 is the best-specced smartphone among the three. It features a 5.5-inch full-HD 2.5D screen with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and a fingerprint sensor. The Nokia 6 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and is powered by Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM. The handset packs 32GB inbuilt storage, and supports microSD cards up to 128GB capacity, and houses a 3000mAh battery.
On the camera front, the Nokia 6 sports a 16-megapixel rear sensor, while the front camera's resolution is 8-megapixel and both come with an f/2.0 aperture. The handset has USB 2.0 port for connectivity, fingerprint sensor in the front, dual stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos audio enhancement.
Nokia 5 features a fingerprint scanner and sports a 5.2-inch HD display. It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is powered by the Snapdragon 430 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB inbuilt storage and also supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 128GB). Nokia 5 packs a 13-megapixel sensor on the back and an 8-megapixel sensor at the front.
The Nokia 5's design is highlighted with a seamless aluminium 6000 series body that curves around the edges for a smooth, rounded shape, which the company says is a "perfect fit for those who need great design, specs at its price." The handset features a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button. It measures 149.7x72.5x8.05mm and houses a 3000mAh non-removable battery.
Lastly, Nokia 3 has been targeted at those who are looking for a premium-looking handset at a budget. It comes with a polycarbonate body and metallic frame on the sides. For specifications, the Nokia 3 has a 5-inch HD display, Android 7.0 Nougat, 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek 6737 SoC. It comes with 16GB of inbuilt storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card support. Optics include an 8-megapixel camera on both the front and back. The Nokia 3 packs a 2650mAh battery and measures 143.4x71.4x8.4mm.
"Nokia 3 is special and we strongly believe that a good design and specifications at a budget is something everyone deserves," the company said at launch.
