Rick Osterloh, Motorola' President, on Wednesday in an 'Ask Me' session on Twitter confirmed that the Lenovo-owned company tries to maintain an annual product cycle. This implies Motorola can be expected to unveil the next-generation Moto X around September, which was when the Moto X (Gen 2) was launched last year.
A Twitter user asked, "Can we expect the next generation Moto X to come out in the same time-frame of the past two years?" Osterloh replied saying, "We try to stay on a roughly annual cycle for all of our products including Moto X."
As of now, details about the successor to the Moto X (Gen 2) are limited. To recall, Motorola Moto X (Gen 2) was launched last year at a starting price of $499.99 (roughly Rs. 30,200) for the unlocked version. It arrived in India at Rs. 31,999.
The Motorola President was also questioned about whether his company has plans about launching a new tablet.
Another Twitter user asked him, "Will Motorola get into the tablet space this year?" To this, Osterloh replied, "On Tablets, we don't have any plans, but Lenovo has lots of great offerings here (e.g., Yoga)." He was smart enough to recommend parent company Lenovo's tablet offerings. To recall, Motorola Mobility was snapped up by Lenovo last year for $2.9 billion.
A recent report suggested that Motorola's Moto X (Gen 2) will soon start receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. The update was tipped by the changelog available on Motorola's website.
