Microsoft is widely expected to launch the new Cityman (Lumia 950) and Talkman (Lumia 950 XL) Windows 10 Mobile-powered smartphones at the company's October 6 event. While the company is yet to finalise its Windows 10 Mobile version, a new rumour hints that both the handsets may run Threshold 1 version of the Windows 10 Mobile.

The piece of news comes from ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley who has claimed that the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will ship with a build that won't be Threshold 2 version in early October. The Threshold 2 version is rumoured to be released only in November for desktops, tablets, and smartphones.

WinBeta in a report further cements the speculation and claims that both the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL smartphones indeed will ship with Threshold 1 build of Windows 10 Mobile. The report adds that the build number could be 10240, much like the Windows 10 desktop RTM build number. It is however expected to include various patches and fixes to make sure that the experience on the Threshold 1 release is smooth.

To recall, Microsoft started rolling out Windows 10 Build 10240, which is said to be the RTM (release to manufacturing) build, to Windows 10 Insiders and hardware partners just few weeks before the final release date.

As for the leaked specifications, which have been reiterated by multiple sources over the past few months, the Lumia 950 sports a 5.2-inch QHD display and is powered by Snapdragon 808 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and a 3,000mAH battery. The Lumia 950 XL, on the other hand, is said to equip a 5.7-inch QHD display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 810 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM. Both the handsets are reportedly going to have a 21-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie sensor.

Apart from the long-rumoured Cityman (Lumia 950) and Talkman (Lumia 950 XL) Windows 10 Mobile devices, the company is also likely to launch the Surface Pro 4 tablet, the successor to the Surface Pro 3.
