Apple is reportedly testing a new iPhone that sports a 640x1136 resolution display, a modest upgrade from the 640x960 display in the iPhone 4S. According to 9to5Mac, the display in the new iPhone measures 3.95-inches diagonally, compared to 3.5-inches in the current generation iPhone.

The report indicates that the said iPhone is one of at least two prototypes that are currently being tested around the Infinite Loop campus. Apple employees are reportedly carrying the prototypes around in thick, locked shells, as has been the practice over the years, to disguise the exterior design.

The said prototypes include a home-button, which contradicts some of the earlier reports which had talked about a button-less, all-touch iPhone. As per 9to5Mac, the new iPhone would also feature the much rumoured smaller dock-type connector.

The rumours, if true, would be a big disappointment to those looking towards the next iPhone to match, if not surpass, the 1280x720 resolution in current generation of flagship Android smartphones from Samsung, HTC & Sony.
