Amidst several rumours surrounding the Apple Watch 2 and the iPhone 6s, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted what the Cupertino giant might introduce in latter half of this year.
Kuo's predictions (via Macrumours) include new colour variants for the rumoured next-gen Apple Watch and new versions of iMac and iPad Mini. He also predicts the sales numbers Apple might have achieved from its devices in the launch quarter (Q2), and how it would perform in current quarter.
While Apple is yet to reveal the sales figures for the Apple Watch, Kuo believes the firm sold roughly 3.9 million units in the second quarter. He predicts sales to reach up to 5 million in the current quarter due to an ease in supply of components and the Watch getting launched in more countries. However, the firm might find it difficult to achieve the 15 million unit sales target estimated by the Wall Street by the end of this year.
It is worth noting that Apple might not reveal the Apple Watch sales figures at all, if CEO Tim Cook's comments from last year are any indication. "I'm not very anxious in reporting a lot of numbers on Apple Watch because competitors look for it," he told Fortune.
Kuo also believes the Apple Watch Sport might arrive in Yellow and Rose Gold colour variants, matching with the colour options of rumoured iPhone 6s models. Kuo has previously suggested the iPhone 6s smartphones will come with Rose Gold casing to match the Rose Gold Apple Watch Edition.
Kuo believes Apple sold around 54.2 million units in Q2 and the figures would see a decline, reaching 40.1 million units in Q3, as the sales would fall before the launch of rumoured iPhone 6s. Also, the initial shipments of the rumoured next-gen iPhone models would be slow due to "low yield of Force Touch."
Apple iPad sales are said to continue declining as per the analyst. The firm is expected to have sold around 8.8 million units in Q2. However, a thinner and lighter iPad Mini, which might be just a smaller version of iPad Air 2, might start shipping by the end of Q3 and pull the sales figures up to 11 million units in the third quarter. Kuo did not give any details on possible updates to the iPad Air or the much-anticipated iPad Pro.
Lastly, Kuo predicts strong performance for Apple iMac models with up to 5.3 million units shipped in Q2 that might soar up to 5.8 million in current quarter. He also predicts release of new iMac models in late Q3 or early Q4.
It's worth nothing that while Kuo has a pretty accurate track record when it comes to Apple, the exact future plans and Q2 figures are yet to be revealed by the company itself.
