General Mobile has confirmed an event on February 28, where the company will be unveiling its next Android One smartphone. The smartphone brand founded in the US has started sending media invites for an event at the side-lines of the MWC 2017 trade show in Barcelona next week.

The official invite clearly confirms that the GM 6 Android One smartphone will be unveiled at the event. The official invite says that Google's Jon Gold, Director, Android Partner Programs, will be also present at the launch event.

This won't be the first MWC event for General Mobile as the company unveiled the GM 5 Plus Android One smartphone last year. It was priced at under $300 (approximately Rs. 20,500) and went on sale in over 15 countries last year.

The last Android One smartphone from General Mobile was the General Mobile GM 5 which was unveiled in November last year.

For those unaware, Google in partnership with General Mobile in 2015 had launched Europe's first Android One smartphone. Google's collaboration with General Mobile has enables the Android One initiative to reach different markets. General Mobile offers its Android One phones in almost 20 markets including Azerbaijan, Albania, Afghanistan, Belgium, Bosnia, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Iraq, Kenya, Luxembourg, Moldova, Netherlands, Pakistan, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.

To recall, when Google initially announced its Android One initiative back in June 2014, the platform was supposed to target emerging markets as well as ensure a minimum set of standards for smartphones. Google's collaboration with General Mobile however hinted at a revamped strategy for Android One series.
