Motorola is also jumping onto the new trend of display hole for selfie camera. The Motorola P40 was recently leaked in renders and the smartphone was seen sporting a display hole for selfie camera up front with little to no bezel on all sides. The smartphone has leaked once again, specification details revealed this time. The most notable tipped specification is the dual camera setup at the back which features a 48-megapixel sensor alongside a 5-megapixel secondary sensor.
Motorola P40 specifications have been leaked by Twitter user Andri Yatim, and he suggests that the smartphone will run on Android 9 Pie, sport a 6.2-inch HD+ IPS display, and be powered by the Snapdragon 675 SoC. It will be made available in 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage options.
Coming to the optics, the Motorola P40 will sport a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor and secondary 5-megapixel sensor with f/1.75 aperture. Up front, the smartphone will sport a 12-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture and AI-backed features. The tipster notes that the Motorola P40 packs a 4,132mAh battery, and supports NFC as well.
The tipster has also leaked a render of the Motorola P40, and it is pretty much identical to the one that was leaked earlier by OnLeaks. The phone is seen sporting the display hole on the top left edge of the screen to house the selfie sensor. There's a slight chin at the bottom that houses the Motorola branding. At the back, the dual camera setup is aligned vertically, and the rear fingerprint sensor sits under the Motorola batwing logo. The power and volume buttons are both housed on the right edge of the device.
Previous report also suggests that the Motorola P40 will support a USB Type-C port, a microphone hole, and a speaker grille. Motorola has retained the 3.5mm headphone jack and the Motorola P40 apparently measures 160.1 x 71.2 x 8.7mm.
The Motorola P40 is following the footsteps of Huawei who launched the Honor V20 and the Huawei Nova 4 with similar display hole for selfie camera design and 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor at the back. Even Xiaomi is said to be developing a similar design phone with 48-megapixel sensor and a Snapdragon 675 SoC. The Xiaomi Redmi phone will be official on January 10, however, we have no clue when Motorola plans to launch the P40.
