In a Facebook post, Motorola India
announced the news and said, "Surprise surprise! The brand new Moto G can be yours at just Rs. 9,999." The price cut from
Motorola India seems to be an attempt of the company to keep the smartphone relevant in the budget phone segment. One of the biggest disadvantages of the Moto G (Gen 2) is that it doesn't support 4G LTE connectivity.
A lot of smartphones in recent weeks have received price cuts
including the
Honor 6 which is now available at Rs. 16,999, and the
Xiaomi Mi 4 (16GB) which is now
retailing at Rs. 14,999. Xiaomi India also
announced a price cut on the
Redmi Note 4G, available at Rs. 7,999 and earlier on Tuesday
announced price cut for the
Redmi 2, now available at Rs. 5,999.
The new price cut on the Moto G (Gen 2) also brings it around Lenovo's
K3 Note phablet price.
