Both LG Greece's Facebook page (LG Hellas) and O2, a UK-based telecom operator, have separately confirmed that LG currently has no plans to bring Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to this year's flagship smartphone, the G4. Last week LG Hellas said the company had no plans to roll out Android 5.1 Lollipop to its G3 handset as well.
Notably, LG this year has launched a number of Android 5.0 Lollipop handsets in the market. The firm has till date not mentioned anything about whether its handsets, including the flagship G4, would get the recently announced Android M.
Like speculated in the case of LG G3, the statements by O2 and LG Hellas on their Facebook pages earlier this week could mean that the G4, which runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, might be directly jumping to Android M. Skipping updates is nothing new for LG as the firm has previously too rolled out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its G3 directly from Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
On the other hand, fellow South Korean firm Samsung's Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have started receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.
Sony earlier this month detailed its plans as to which Xperia smartphones will be receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop updates later this year. As per the company, the entire Xperia Z series will be receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, along with the Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3, starting July. Sony also announced that the Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua handsets will be directly updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop from Android 4.4 KitKat, skipping the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS completely.
Till date, only HTC and Sony have announced Android M would be rolled out to some of their current generation hardware, with HTC promising an update for the One M9 and One M9+, and Sony has already provided Android M Developer Preview images for a wide range of its handsets.
