Chinese Internet conglomerate LeEco has announced its entry into offline retail space in India. The company will now sell the LeEco Le 1s smartphone via brick and mortar stores. The company in a release revealed that as part of the first phase it will make its smartphones available via offline stores located in prime locations in New Delhi and Mumbai. LeEco plans to cover close to 70 percent retail stores across the country by end of September as part of the second phase.
Commenting on the announcement, Atul Jain, COO, Smart Electronics Business, LeEco India said, "We have fast-tracked our growth trajectory in India and our entry into the physical retail space affirms it. Since our India launch, we're thrilled to have seen an incredible response from users and this landmark announcement is a step ahead in making our Superphones more accessible to our users. In the near future, also plan to have our own wholly owned retail stores across the country".
Last month, the company announced it was awaiting FIBP approval to set up its own retail stores in the country, and said it expected the approval to be given with the next two or three months.
To recall, the Le 1s went on sale in India back in January and was available online exclusively via Flipkart. The company recently announced that it sold 500,000 units of Le smartphones in India in 100 days. The Chinese company currently has 555 service centers across the country.
To refresh on the Le 1s specifications, the handset is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop based EUI 5.5 UI. It supports a reversible USB Type-C with fast-charging. It features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) ISP display; 3GB of RAM; 32GB of inbuilt storage; dual-SIM (Micro + Nano-SIM); 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF); a 5-megapixel front-facing camera; 4G LTE, and 3000mAh battery.
