Lava is positing the V5 as a camera-focussed phone with 4G connectivity. The Lava V5 sports a 13-megapixel rear as well as an 8-megapixel front camera. The rear camera packs features such as PDAF (phase detection autofocus), f2.0 aperture, 5P Largan lens Blue glass filter, and dual LED flash. The front camera, on the other hand, features f2.2 aperture with 84 degree wide angle lens and LED flash.
Some of the other camera features V5 packs include Pic Focus, Wide Selfie, Night Pro, GIF maker, Intelligent Selfie, and multi-angle view. Another highlight of the smartphone is it supports 4G LTE Cat 4 and Super Power Saving mode for extended battery life.

The Lava V5 features a 5.5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display and also sports Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection from scratches. The Android 5.1 Lollipop-based V5 runs the company's proprietary Star OS 2.0. It supports dual 4G SIMs and Lava says it is upgradeable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is powered by a quad-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.3GHz clubbed with 3GB of RAM. It packs 16GB of built-in storage which is expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). The handset also supports OTG support. The V5 packs a 3000mAh battery. Apart from 4G, the handset supports GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Glonass, and Micro-USB, with VoLTE support to be added via a software update at a later stage.
