The Lava Iris Fuel 20 - like other members of the Iris Fuel series of smartphones - sports a large battery - 4400mAh battery in this case, which is perhaps the largest battery in a sub-Rs. 6,000 smartphone. Other Iris Fuel range handsets include the Lava Iris Fuel 50 and Lava Iris Fuel 60.
To compare, the Iris Fuel 20's 4400mAh battery is larger than some of the popular smartphones in its category, such as Xiaomi's Redmi 1S (2000mAh), Moto E (1980mAh), Lenovo A6000 (2300mAh) and the Asus Zenfone 5 A501CG (2110mAh). The domestic handset maker says "this is the second biggest smartphone battery available in the country today." The Gionee Marathon M3 comes with a 5000mAh battery.
However, the Iris Fuel 20 supports just 2G connectivity that might be the biggest let-down of the handset. Recently, the Indian smartphone market has seen some 4G-enabled smartphones being launched in the budget price range.
The dual-SIM based Iris Fuel 20 runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box. It comes with a 5-inch (480x854 pixels) FWVGA display. The smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz dual-core (unspecified chipset) processor coupled with 512MB of RAM.
It comes with 4GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). It sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a secondary 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera also on board.
Apart from 2G, other connectivity options on the Lava Iris Fuel 20 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth options.
Commenting at the launch, Navin Chawla, Vice President and Head Product, Lava International Ltd. said, "The Lava Iris Fuel 20 is designed to meet the needs of users who are heavy smartphone users and are looking for a device with astounding battery life that lets them utilise the phone through the day and more. Iris Fuel 20 is a competitively priced 2G phone that is designed to give buyers a delightful smartphone experience."
