Jumpr: A smartphone power bank that can jumpstart cars

Inactivity can make your car/bike battery dead and hence it won't start without a jolt. There are specific tools that can provide instant power source to jump start the dead automobile. Think CPR for an automobile. If you are wondering why we are talking about such a tool in a website that covers technology news, allow us to introduce the Jumpr from Juno Power - a portable 6000mAh battery for portable smartphones and tablets that can also be used to give the required jolt to start your automobile.

In the Grandst marketplace - a kickstarter of sorts for creative technology - Juno Power states that the Jumpr, with its sleek form factor of 139 x 75 x 15mm, produces a 12 volt output at a peak of 300 amps, which means that this is enough to jumpstart almost all 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. The blue coloured Jumpr weighs seven ounces (approximately 200gms).

Juno Power states that the battery pack will be available to the first 500 customers who pre-order it for $70 (approximately Rs. 4,200), and post that it will cost $90 (approximately Rs. 5,400). The box will have standard charging cables (presumably Micro-USB) and a proprietary jumper cable. It comes with a one-year-warranty that covers the device in case something goes wrong during the process of jump starting the automobile. The warranty doesn't cover the damaged device or vehicle. The battery pack will start shipping on May 1.

We are glad to note that manufacturers are innovating with battery technology lately. We had reported earlier how researchers have developed a new battery technology that could help create batteries that last longer than previously thought possible.
