A Google slip-up has revealed the version number of the next iteration of Android aka Jelly Bean. It will be known as Android 4.1, reported Engadget, which spotted it on the check-out page of Google Play Store devices section.

The leak also suggests that Jelly Bean is due very soon, and we might see the launch as early as next week's Google I/O developer event.

Previously rumoured to be Android 5.0, Jelly Bean is now expected to be a minor update. It is likely to improve on some of existing features and bring user interface changes to the operating system.

As stated on the screenshot and historically, Galaxy Nexus is expected to be the first device to get the next version of Android.

The slip was caught by Google very soon and the page has since been updated to remove any mention of Jelly Bean or Android 4.1.
