iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus may not be the top-of-the-line models in Apple's portfolio, but that doesn't mean the two smartphones will not get the same treatment. The new models launch in India on Friday, September 29 at 6pm IST, and both the handsets cost relatively less than the iPhone X, the flagship model in Apple's lineup. Though iPhone 8 price in India can be reduced further if you pair up the offers Jio is providing to customers as part of its pre-booking deals. In fact, a page on Amazon India says the Jio deals bring down the "net value after offers" of iPhone 8 64GB to Rs. 18,788.
At an event in Mumbai where Jio and Apple officially released the new handsets in India, the telco also revealed the terms and conditions attached with its pre-bookings and the offers it is providing. Scroll down to check out everything the operator announced.
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Review
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus can be pre-booked from Jio.com website, Jio Store retail outlets and Reliance Digital large format stores. The company says you can only book one iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus unit per mobile number via its platforms, and will have to pay a pre-booking amount of Rs. 1,999. You will also have to provide details such as name, email ID and phone number while placing the order.
On the day of the delivery, you will receive confirmation via email or SMS, and you can head to the assigned Jio Store or Reliance Retail outlet to pick it up. When you pick up the iPhone 8 unit, you will need a copy of the pre-booking confirmation and a copy of the Aadhaar card. The same paperwork will be needed if you are getting the unit delivered at your home or office.
Notably, the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus unit once booked cannot be cancelled, so you stand to lose the Rs. 1,999 pre-booking amount if you decide against making the purchase after placing the order.
For iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, Jio has launched new prepaid and postpaid plans that provide 3GB of high speed data per day, unlimited SMSes, Jio apps subscription worth Rs. 1,250 and free voice calls and roaming. These plans are priced at Rs. 799 and come with a 12-month contract, meaning that you will have to recharge the handset every month with Rs. 799. The validity of the plan is 28 days for prepaid and one billing cycle for postpaid.
The iPhone 8 buyback guarantee by Jio provides customers with 70 percent cashback on returning the handset after a year. This buyback value will be calculated after deducting the taxes applied. You need to install the MyJio app on the phone to claim the offer, and use a Jio SIM card for a year before you hand it over at a Jio store.
Here’s how it works – if you buy the iPhone 8 Plus 256GB for its full price of Rs. 86,000, the buyback will be calculated at Rs. 75,680 - Rs. 10,320 will not be considered for the cashback because of 12 percent GST. So you will get back Rs. 52,976 in the form of vouchers that can be used to upgrade to the next iPhone or purchase goods at the Reliance Digital; the voucher should be used within 6 months or it will expire.
iPhone 8 and 8 Plus buyers can get Rs. 10,000 cashback on payments made via Citibank cards on September 29 only. Flipkart also has a similar offer, with Rs. 10,000 cashback on Citibank Credit and World Debit cards.
Apple CEO Tim Cook joined the Jio event for the launch of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus via video link, and had the following message for buyers in India:
