Intex has announced the launch of a gaming-focussed handset, Intex Player.

The company is hoping to differentiate Intex Player from a plethora of handsets in the market by bundling "1000+ pre-loaded games" and 2 dedicated gaming buttons on the top, designed to offer quick access to gaming content. Somewhat strangely for a handset with a gaming focus in this age of large-screen handsets, Intex Player features a TFT touchscreen that's a paltry 2.8-inches. There's no word from the company on the processor, RAM, or indeed the OS powering this phone.

The dual-SIM phone comes with a 1,200 mAh battery that is rated at a talk-time of up to 4 hours and standby time of up to 200 hours. The phone comes with a 1.3-megapixel rear camera and 2G Internet connectivity via GPRS.

Intex Player comes preloaded with a video player (25FPS, AVI, 3GP, MP4), audio player (MP3 and WAV), sound recorder and FM radio with recording facility. It comes bundled with a FREE 4GB microSD Card and Bluetooth support, as well as a USB option to connect with PCs for data transfer. The phone also supports calling Blacklists and Whitelists for selectively barring or taking calls.

Intex Player ships with English and Hindi user-interface options and is available in Black, White and Silver colour options for Rs. 2,790.

Commenting on the launch, Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, GM-Mobile Business, Intex Technologies (I) Ltd. said, "The consumption pattern of mobile phones has drastically changed in the last five years in India. Not only are young professionals using mobile phones for work but are also indulging themselves at leisure time by making use of entertainment features. Thus, it became a critical need to create a phone that would offer our customers the choice to engage in fun activities such as games etc."

Mobiles launched in April 2013
