Huawei has started sending invites for a September 1 pre-IFA 2016 event in Berlin, and the company is expected to launch its latest lineup of smartphones at the event.

While nothing much is mentioned on the invite (via GSMArena), Huawei is expected to launch the successor to its Mate 8 phablet ahead of the much anticipated iPhone 7 launch later in the month. In the large phone category, the successor for Huawei Mate 8 will see stiff competition from the latest large screen iPhone variant.

In view of this, the company might want to take advantage of the window between announcement of its latest phone and that of the new iPhone models. Despite the announcement of Mate 8 in November last year, the Chinese company is expected to cut short its smartphone cycle on account of increased competition. There's no information on what other devices can be expected to be launched at Huawei's September 1 event, though tablets and wearables are also possibilities.

The Chinese telecommunications giant is also rumoured to be working on its own operating system in order to reduce its dependence on Google's Android, but the project is believed to be in early stages of development as of now and an announcement regarding this is unlikely at the event.

To recall, Huawei Terminal's Honor brand earlier this month launched the Honor 5C (Review) smartphone in India, priced at Rs. 10,999. The smartphone will go on sale via Flipkart and HiHonor.com in its first flash sale on Friday, with registrations opening last week.
