Huawei on Sunday took to Weibo to announce that it would be holding a launch event at Mobile World Congress 2018, which to be held in Barcelona later this month. The company also revealed that there would be another product announcement in March. While the post does not give out much information, it does mention that new products will be launched at the MWC event. This event will be in addition to the March 27 launch event in Paris, whose invites were sent out last week.
As we mentioned, Huawei has issued an announcement on its official Weibo microblog regarding its presence at MWC 2018. Huawei P20, the Chinese giant's expected flagship for 2018, is unlikely to be seen at the event. Previous reports have suggested that Huawei might be looking to launch three new smartphones in its flagship range for this year.
A GSMArena report suggests a new variant in the Mediapad tablet range might be slated for release, considering Huawei's stellar year-on-year performance in the tablet market. A GeekBench listing of the tablet showed the device will have the octa-core Kirin 960 SoC, 8.4-inch display with QHD resolution, Cat. 4 LTE support, 4GB RAM, and Android Oreo.
Apart from that, it points towards several other expected announcements, including the arrival of Huawei Pay in European markets, and even a successor to the Huawei Watch 2. The Chinese brand might also be looking to announce a couple of new smartphones in its mid-range or entry-level segment. There are, however, no details around any of them currently.
Samsung and Sony are also looking to upgrade their portfolio. Press invites indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be revealed on February 25 at an event in Barcelona. Additionally, Sony might launch its 2018 flagship alongside a successor to the Xperia XZ1 Compact at the tech show. Even the Nokia 7 Plus could make an appearance at Nokia's MWC 2018 launch event, alongside the rumoured Nokia 1 Android Go phone and Nokia 9 flagship.
