While rumours surrounding HTC's next flagship phablet have been floating for a long time, the Taiwanese handset maker has now officially sent invitations for an event scheduled on October 16 in Hong Kong, where it's expected to finally unveil the One Max smartphone-tablet hybrid.

As per Engadget, HTC first sent invitations for an event in Kaohsiung due on October 18. However, soon after the Taiwanese invitation, they received another invitation from HTC Hong Kong for an event scheduled for October 16, two days before the launch in Taiwan.

The invitation said, "One finger opens up a big view. You are invited to immerse in the sound with us" (translated). The invitation appears to hint about the rumoured fingerprint scanner expected on the alleged HTC One Max. Unfortunately, the invitation says nothing about the phablet.

Earlier this week, more images of HTC's rumoured One Max phablet, popped up on the Internet. The leaked images revealed nothing new about the device but only further confirmed that the HTC One Max will be indeed coming with a fingerprint scanner at the back.

Rumoured specifications of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean-based HTC One Max include a 5.9-inch Super LCD full-HD (1080x1920 pixel) display, 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor, and an UltraPixel camera, apart from the fingerprint scanner.

With the HTC One having been comfortably established in the market for a good while now, the launch of HTC's first phablet is expected to strengthen the portfolio of the Taiwanese handset maker.

Meanwhile, HTC posted its first-ever quarterly losses, with sales hit hard by fierce competition in the smartphone market, supply chain constraints and internal turmoil.
