HTC One manages to clock 5 million units sold despite supply constraints

HTC made a big splash in February 2013 by showcasing its flagship smartphone HTC One. The Taiwanese smartphone maker is now claiming to have already sold five million units of this smartphone.

This claim was made by an unnamed HTC executive while talking to The Wall Street Journal, which quotes, "HTC has sold around 5 million One smartphones since its launch about a month ago."

This statement comes days after Samsung revealed that the company has managed to ship 10 million units of Samsung Galaxy S4. Samsung had started retailing its flagship smartphone from April end.

Just to recap, HTC One (Review | Pictures) features a 4.7-inch screen with 1080p display. It is powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor along with 2GB of RAM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC, Infrared and Micro-USB. The smartphone runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) along with a brand new Sense UI.

There has been a lot of buzz around the HTC One camera, as the company has ditched the conventional megapixel in favour of something that the company dubs as the UltraPixel camera. There is a 2.1-megapixel front camera and a 2,300mAh battery. Stay tuned for a full review of the HTC One.

Ever since the launch HTC One, the company has been grappling with supply issues. As per the WSJ report, the delay is caused by component shortages including that of camera parts and metal casings.

The phone is now listed as 'in-stock' in India with online retailer Infibeam for Rs. 42,900. The company had originally promised that HTC One will start retailing in India by April-end, but the launch has been delayed, and till now, there's no official word from the company on phone's availability.
