Mo Versi, the HTC Vice President of Product Management, on Wednesday announced that Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for HTC One (M8) unlocked handsets will start rolling out in the US from Thursday.
The announcement came via a Twitter post that stated, "HTC One (M8) unlocked owners! Great news, all testing has been complete and the update for Marshmallow will be sent out within 24 hours. Thx." When asked about the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for HTC M9 handsets, Versi said the update is being readied and will be arriving soon. He further tweeted that the company is closely working with the carrier-based models of the One (M8) and will try to roll it out "as soon as possible."
In the meanwhile, as per a reliable HTC tipster named LlabTooFeR, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Sense 7.0 update for HTC One (M8) will be reaching in Europe in couple of weeks. The update will bring the build number of the handset to 6.12.401.x.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow (previously just Android M) brings features such as revamped app permissions; Google Now on Tap feature; Android Pay mobile payment system, and new fingerprint APIs for developers among others.
HTC in September revealed the list of devices that will be receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. According to the list the flagships HTC One M9 will likely receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow by the end of 2015. Other smartphones due for the update include HTC One M9+, HTC One E9, HTC One E9+, HTC One ME, and HTC One (M8 Eye), and HTC Butterfly 3. Notably, the company is also preparing to bring the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to select Desire smartphones including HTC Desire 816, Desire 820, and Desire 826.
