HTC has finally started rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its 2014 flagship One (M8) smartphone in India. The latest Android update for the HTC One (M8) is now available over-the-air (OTA).
Update, January 25: As it turns out, the HTC One (M8) unit with us on which we received the update on is actually a UK unit, which has officially received the update. The update has not been rolled out yet in India. We apologise to our readers for the confusion.
Users can manually check for the update via Settings> About Phone> System Update. The Marshmallow update bumps the software number of One (M8) to 6.12.161.4 and also brings the new Sense 7 UI.
HTC's One (M8) unlocked version started receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update last month in the US.
To refresh, Android 6.0 Marshmallow (previously just Android M) brings features such as revamped app permissions; Google Now on Tap feature; Android Pay mobile payment system, and new fingerprint APIs for developers among others.
Last month, HTC started seeding the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to its One A9 (unlocked) smartphone in the US. The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for the HTC One A9 brought several bug fixes and the latest set of emojis from Unicode 7 and Unicode 8. The previously available emojis also received visible tweaks in terms. Google Keyboard was also updated as a part of the new OS version. The update also brought with it the December Security Update for Android devices alongside minor tweaks such as adding revamped navigation buttons for tablets.
HTC's 2015 flagship One M9 also started receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update last month that arrived in two parts. While the first update (2.11.617.180) prepared the device to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow weighing 99.47MB, the second one downloaded and installed the new OS version weighing in at 1.21GB. The second update also bumped the software version to 3.35.617.12.
