The Honor 6X from Huawei went on sale in India in February starting at Rs. 12,999. The smartphone was launched running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is now receiving the EMUI 5.0 update based on Android 7.0 Nougat, starting with the US. To recall, the smartphone had been launched in India with access to a beta update of Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Android 7.0 Nougat-based EMUI 5.0 update for the Honor 6X is now rolling out in the US, according to a report by PhoneArena, which cites Honor USA as the source of information. The reported rollout is in line with Android Nougat update roadmap that Huawei shared back in January, which stated that the Honor 6X would receive the Android Nougat-based EMUI 5.0 update in May.
The Android 7.0 Nougat update with EMUI 5.0 means the Honor 6X will see software improvements in features, security and overall performance along with a simpler design interface. EMUI 5.0 on the other hand, first seen on flagships like the Huawei Mate 9, offers intelligent features such as the ability to learn the user's habits over time to streamline the interface and system resource allocation.
The EMUI 5.0 update will gradually rollout across the world in the next few weeks. Those who own a Honor 6X start receiving the update notification or can try to manually look for it in Settings to see if the update is available.
The Honor 6X sports a 5.5-inch (1080x1920 pixels) full-HD IPS display with 2.5D curved glass protection. Honor 6X is powered by a Kirin 655 octa-core (4 cores at 2.1GHz + 4 cores at 1.7GHz) SoC. The smartphone is offered in two variants - 3GB RAM/ 32GB inbuilt storage and 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage. The dual-SIM (Nano-SIM) card slots of Honor 6X support microSD cards (up to 128GB) in the second SIM card slot.
The main highlight of the Honor 6X is its dual-camera setup features one 12-megapixel sensor that supports PDAF and a 2-megapixel sensor just below it. Over at the front, the Honor 6X comes with a 8-megapixel sensor for selfies. The fingerprint sensor at the back sits below the dual-camera setup. The company claims that the Honor 6X's fingerprint sensor can unlock the smartphone in 0.3 seconds.
Connectivity options for the Honor 6X include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and GPS/ A-GPS. The device is fitted with a 3340mAh battery with fast charging support. The Honor 6X smartphone measures 150.9x72.6x8.2mm and weighs 162 grams.
