With the introduction of new USB Type-C port in Chromebook Pixel 2015, Google hints that consumers should expect to see it in Android smartphones and tablets apart from more Chromebooks in the "near future".

The USP of the USB Type-C specification, apart from supporting up to USB 3.1 data transfer speeds and integrated video output, is its reversible connector - users will no longer have to worry about which way the USB cable or peripheral is facing when connecting to the port.

Elaborating on the USB Type-C port in the new Chromebook Pixel, Google's Adam Rodriguez in a video said, "We at are Google very committed to the USB Type-C spec, expect to see this in a lot Chromebooks and Android phones in the near future."

Google even notes that the Chromebook Pixel's USB Type-C charger can not only power the laptop, but also the future phones and tablets. To remind you, Apple's new 12-inch MacBook also features a USB Type-C port for connecting peripherals, video out, and charging.

Meanwhile, Google and Belkin on Thursday introduced the collection of new USB-C cables and adapters. Google's collection of connectors includes a USB Type-C to USB Type-A Adapter, and a USB Type-C to USB Type-A Cable, both selling for $13 (approximately Rs. 800).

Google's USB Type-C to USB Type-A Adapter is capable of plugging a full-sized USB Type-A connector to a USB-C plug, whereas the USB Type-C to USB Type-A Cable can connect the laptop/ device to any normal USB port or any battery charger.

The USB Type-C accessory collection from Google also includes a Universal USB Type-C Charger (60W) for $60 (approximately Rs. 3,700), claimed to work as "one universal charger for your next-generation [USB-C] devices", possibly with the new MacBook as well.

On the other hand, Belkin's collection includes nine USB Type-C cables priced between $20 (approximately Rs. 1,300) to $30 (approximately Rs. 1,950). The company will ship all the USB Type-C accessories this summer.
