News is coming in from multiple sources that none of the existing Windows Phone smartphones will be updated to the next major release of platform, codenamed "Apollo".
Technology blog 'The Verge' is reporting that there will be no upgrade from Mango to Apollo, a trusted source close to Microsoft confirmed to them. However on the brighter side, a report from ZDNet quotes Terry Myerson, the Corporate Vice President of Windows Phone that all the applications currently available in the Windows Phone Marketplace will run on the next version of the platform.
Although not confirmed officially, this piece of news won't certainly gel well with the consumers who have recently purchased a Windows Phone unit or were planning to. Software upgrades have increasingly become an important factor in smartphone purchase decisions in the recent years. Android consumers have long complained about being stuck on old versions and not receiving updates at all sometimes.
