OnePlus, the smartphone start-up run by ex-Oppo executive, Pete Lau, has announced its partnership with CyanogenMod to launch their first phone in Q1 2014.

The company has announced that it will be launching the OnePlus One phone in partnership with Cyanogen in select markets and that both the companies will eventually expand the device's availability in more markets.

The OnePlus forum notes, "The CyanogenMod team will work in tandem with us to combine the best hardware with the best software. They are developing a custom version of CyanogenMod with special features and tweaks. We think the end result will be quite spectacular!"

CyanogenMod OS was last seen on Oppo's flagship smartphone, the N1, which comes with support for running the OS.

Commenting on the announcement, Pete Lau, CEO OnePlus said, "What's coming is one of the most popular mobile operating systems specifically developed for the best hardware, with a unique twist. The smartphone industry is ripe for disruption, and 2014 should prove to be a huge year for the future of the market."

Cyanogen Inc. CTO, Steve Kondik said, "By combining our software expertise with Pete's background in hardware and design, we'll develop a phone that will exceed both of our expectations."

The CyanogenMod is an open-source operating system for devices (smartphones and tablets), based on the Google's Android OS. It is developed as free and open source software based on the official releases of the Android operating system, with additional third-party codes.
