Cyanogen Announces Rebranding Alongside Qualcomm Partnership at MWC 2015

Cyanogen, the company behind the popular CyanogenMod operating system, has announced its re-branding alongside revealing a new partnership with chipmaker Qualcomm.

At the Mobile World Congress, Cyanogen confirmed that it will be provide software support to for features and UI enhancements of Cyanogen OS to certain Snapdragon processors. It will launch alongside the April release of Qualcomm Reference Design (QRD).

With the collaboration Cyanogen believes that its software will be adopted easily by OEMs looking for an alternative to Google's Android. The company also hopes that the tie up will bring "Cyanogen experience across multiple device tiers."

The features and UI enhancements from Cyanogen will be available for select Snapdragon processors namely Snapdragon 200, Snapdragon 400, and Snapdragon 600 series.

"Through the enhanced solution, Cyanogen brings a number of feature-rich enhancements, including a new launcher and personal information management apps across dialler, messaging, contacts, and calendar. The Cyanogen OS experience arrives on the most current Android 5.0 Lollipop release, and will be available to device makers globally," notes Cyanogen.

In addition to UI and other features, Cyanogen's new Launcher will be also available for Qualcomm Reference Design.

Commenting on the collaboration, Kirt McMaster, CEO, Cyanogen said, "We're delighted to collaborate with Qualcomm on their QRD program. We're addressing the needs of device makers in developed and developing markets looking for a truly differentiated software experience that matter to consumers."

Qualcomm's Jason Bremner, SVP of Product Management said, "We chose to work with Cyanogen based on their deep Android expertise and innovative approach to enhancing smartphone software. By collaborating with Cyanogen, we are able to offer unique experiences to users of Snapdragon based devices."

Cyanogen, on the other hand, also announced major rebranding that includes an overhauled logo and website. The new website looks cleaner than the previous version while stresses more on openness of the OS alongside Cyanogen's community.
