United States is no longer the leader in smart device activations. According to mobile analytics firm Flurry, China surpassed US last month to take the top spot in iOS and Android device activations.
In February, 23 percent of the total smart devices were activated in China compared to 22 percent in the US, which is quite a change from the numbers in January 2011, when China accounted only for 8 percent of the activations and US was leading at 28 percent.
This growth in purchase of the new smart devices in China can be attributed to the large population and the emerging middle class, which has more disposable income than ever. Flurry predicts that US share in new Android and iOS device activations will go down further to 21 percent this month while China will continue to go up.
With China activating more devices than the United States now, this will also decrease the gap between two countries in terms of total smart device users.
