BlackBerry has released a software update(version 10.0.10.85) for BlackBerry 10 smartphones, which according to the company will fix some issues related to the overall performance of the phone, improve media features and optimise battery life. The update, which is about 150MB in size is available over the air on BlackBerry 10 phones (essentially the Z10) via the phone's Settings menu. It's the first OTA update to the BlackBerry 10 software and BlackBerry says that it has released the update after receiving feedback from users about it.

BlackBerry has also detailed the top five improvements which the update brings to BlackBerry 10 devices. It says that the update will improve performance for third party applications, so developers can build apps that run faster and smoother. It has also reiterated that WhatsApp will make its debut on the platform in March.

The update fixes Gmail calendars on the OS, in addition to making improvements in the BlackBerry Hub for logging the calls log and the way conversations are handled. It has also made general improvements to importing contacts from online sources.

The company says it has optimised the camera for taking better photos in low-light situations, without using the flash. It brings improvement to the browser's video playback capabilities. BlackBerry claims to have made over 60 improvements to optimise the phone's battery life.

BlackBerry has promised to roll out the update with all of its carrier partners across the world in the coming weeks.

BlackBerry had launched the Z10 smartphone in the Indian market on 25 February 2013 for Rs. 43,490. The pricing of the phone drew a lot of flak with people dissing the company's decision on social networks like Twitter and Facebook.
