Asus' most recent mid-range smartphone in India, the ZenFone Max Pro M1, has received its latest firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) update that enables 4G VoLTE capabilities for Vodafone, Airtel, and Idea SIM cards, brings the "latest" Google Android security patch (May 2018), and claims to improve overall performance of the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and the front camera. Having been announced at the launch event back in April this year, a 6GB RAM variant of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is yet to see the light of day. However, Asus India's Twitter account has been teasing the impending launch of the phone for the past few days.
The dual-SIM (Nano) Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 runs a stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, and is expected to get Android P and Android Q upgrades. The smartphone sports a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) IPS FullView display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, paired with Adreno 509 GPU, 3GB/ 4GB/ 6GB of RAM.
In the camera department, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 bears a vertically stacked dual camera setup at the back, with a 13-megapixel Omnivision primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor. On the front, the handset sports an 8-megapixel selfie camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture, an 85.5-degree wide-angle lens, and a 5P lens. There is 32GB/ 64GB of inbuilt storage on the mid-range offering.
Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth v4.2 (with aptX), GPS/ A-GPS, BDS, GLONASS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors onboard the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, electronic compass, Face Unlock sensor, fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.
