After releasing the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat update to ZenFone 3 Zoom last week, Asus is moving forward to bring the Nougat update to the other ZenFone 3 family members. The Asus ZenFone 3 Max (ZC553KL) has now started receiving Android 7.1.1 Nougat via an over-the-air (OTA) update. Besides, the other variant Asus ZenFone 3 Max (ZC520TL) has also started receiving the Android Nougat update.
The ZenUI update based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat for the Asus ZenFone 3 Max (ZC553KL) bears the version number 14.0200.1704.119 versus the version 13 for Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the device. The update information, shared by Asus via its forum channel Asus ZenTalk, lists only the update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat in the changelog and nothing else. The rollout timeline mentioned in the changelog is about one week to become available to all devices.
In addition, another Asus ZenTalk forum post points out to the rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat for Asus ZenFone 3 Max (ZC520TL) variant. Surprisingly, while the ZenFone 3 Max (ZC553KL) is receiving the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, the latter is receiving an older Nougat version. Having said that, it could be a typographical error as it seems a little illogical on the company's part to roll out Android 7.1.1 Nougat for one variant and Android 7.0 Nougat for the other within the ZenFone 3 family. Both smartphones were launched running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The update changelog mentions the update version number 14.01.1705.23 along with the Android Nougat update and its regulatory information.
As for the specifications, the Asus ZenFone 3 (ZC553KL) features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display, and is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM. It comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture and dual-LED flash, apart from an 8-megapixel front camera with an f/2.2 aperture and an 84-degree wide-angle lens.
The Asus ZenFone 3 Max (ZC520TL) and Asus ZenFone 3 Max (ZC553KL) (Review) apart from sharing a similar design also bear a few common specifications, such as the large 4100mAh battery, hybrid dual-SIM support, a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel.
