Soon after announcing a repair program exclusively for the iPhone 6 Plus users, Apple recently launched another repair program where iPhone 6s users can opt for battery replacement. The Cupertino-based giant however claims that the issue only affects certain devices and not all iPhone 6s users. The company confirms that affected iPhone 6s users are eligible for "free of charge" replacement.

Apple on its dedicated repair program page titled, "iPhone 6s program for unexpected shutdown issues" writes, "Apple has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015."

The repair program seems to be Apple's acknowledgement to China's Consumers Association (CCA) which reportedly recently requested the company to investigate "a considerable number" of reports where users claimed their iPhone 6s wasn't turning back on after abruptly shutting down - effectively bricking the devices.

Apple explains that if a user experiences unexpected shutdown, they can visit Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to get the device checked. The company however will examine the iPhone 6s prior to any service to verify whether it is eligible for this program and in working order, stresses Apple.

"If you have experienced this issue, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have your device's serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge," notes the company.

For some users who paid to get the issue fixed are also eligible for refund, confirmed Apple. "This worldwide Apple program doesn't extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 6s," the company added.
