We can expect the Android 6.0 Marshmallow to debut on Android distribution charts soon considering Google has released final build of its Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones, which will be available in the markets later this month. Additionally, the company has steadily started pushing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates to previous generation Nexus devices and Android One phones.
For this month, sharing the distribution data of different versions of Android, Google reported a mere increase of 2.5 percent in the share of Android Lollipop - bringing the total share to 23.5 percent (with Android 5.0 Lollipop running on 15.6 percent of devices and Android 5.1 version at 7.9 percent) of Android devices that check into Google Play, compared to the 21 percent reported in September.
According to the latest Google Play distribution data for the seven-day period ending October 5, the number of Android KitKat-based devices still stands around 40 percent (precisely 38.9 percent), undergoing a drop of small 0.3 percent compared to a combined percentage of 39.2 in September.
Android Jelly Bean has a combined share of 30.2 percent - falling 1.6 percent from September's 31.8 percent. Android 4.1.x is seen on 11.4 percent devices (down from 12.1 percent), Android 4.2.x on 14.5 percent (down from 15.2 percent), and Android 4.3 on 4.3 percent devices (down from 4.5 percent).
Android 4.0.x or Ice Cream Sandwich, in October's report, registered a share of 3.4 percent, when compared to 3.7 percent last month.
Android Gingerbread (v2.3.3-2.3.7) and Android 2.2 Froyo's device distribution shares are 3.8 percent and 0.2 percent respectively in the latest report, compared to corresponding 4.1 percent and 0.2 percent respectively in September.
The OpenGL version, on the other hand, saw OpenGL 2.0 dominating at 57.2 percent, and OpenGL version 3.0 steadily rising to 38.1 percent.
