The rumoured Amazon smartphone is real, claims technology blog The Verge in a report just hours before the scheduled Amazon press event in Los Angeles.

According to the blog, multiple sources have confirmed that Amazon is indeed working on a smartphone that runs on a variant of Kindle Fire's forked Android version.

It reports that we might get a glimpse of this smartphone on Thursday; however as the smartphone is still an unfinished product, availability date or pricing may not be revealed.

According to previous reports, the Kindle smartphone will come with a forked version of Android and Nokia Maps as the mapping solution.

There are no other details at the moment, but the event is only about 11 hours away and everything should become clear during that.

Apart from Kindle smartphone, Amazon is also expected to launch new Kindle e-readers, and updated versions of its Kindle Fire tablet.

Company seems to have prematurely given us a peek at the upcoming Kindle e-readers and Fire tablet in an ad spot that went on-air during a football game in US.
