The OnePlus 3T has secured its position as the best smartphone you can buy in India under Rs. 30,000, but there are still niche categories that other smartphone brands are looking to tap. One such segment is selfie phones, and the Vivo V5 Plus has staked its claim in this category with its dual front cameras, the only such handset in this price bracket. But is the new Vivo V5 Plus worth the price tag of Rs. 27,980, or should you go for the slightly cheaper Oppo F1 Plus selfie phone? Or is OnePlus 3T’s selfie camera good enough for all your photography needs? Let’s see:
The Vivo V5 Plus’ highlight is its dual front camera setup – a 20-megapixel main front camera with Sony IMX376 1/2.78-inch sensor, 5P lens system, and f/2.0 aperture is backed by the 8-megapixel camera that captures depth-of-field information. Neither the Oppo F1 Plus (Review) nor OnePlus 3T (Review) offer such features in their front cameras, as both smartphones just have 16-megapixel selfie cameras with f/2.0 aperture without any major enhancements like Vivo’s.
Moreover, the Vivo V5 Plus is no slouch in the performance department either with its Snapdragon 625 SoC and 4GB RAM, as we experienced smooth performance in the short time we spent with the smartphone. However, the V5 Plus will find it difficult to match the performance of the OnePlus 3T, which comes with the Snapdragon 821 SoC and 6GB RAM.
In terms of battery capacity as well, the Vivo V5 (3160mAh) is a middling option compared to the OnePlus 3T (3400mAh) and Oppo F1 Plus (2850mAh). None of the three smartphones runs on the latest version of Android, but instead have to contend with older versions of the mobile operating system. Inbuilt storage for all three smartphones is 64GB, though OnePlus 3T’s 128GB variant can be purchased at Rs. 34,999, while Oppo F1 Plus comes with microSD expansion support up to 256GB.
