Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have officially launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 57,900. As expected, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ models are the dual-SIM, Exynos-powered variants of the handsets. The highlight of the two new Samsung flagship phones is the edge-to-edge Infinity display.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 price in India is Rs. 57,900 (MOP), while the Samsung Galaxy S8+ price in India is Rs. 64,900 (MOP). The latter will be available in Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and Maple Gold colour variants, while the Galaxy S8 will come in Midnight Black and Maple Gold colour options. Pre booking of the Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy S8+, with a scheduled launch date of May 5. The two new Samsung flagship smartphones come bundled with AKG earphones in the box.
As for pre-booking offers, Samsung will be bundling a wireless charger free (Rs. 4,499) with the Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S8 - you can read the full terms and conditions on the Samsung site. Samsung also detailed a launch offer for Reliance Jio users. Called the Reliance Jio Double Data offer, it provides 28GB+28GB data a month at Rs. 309 for 8 months to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ buyers.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ will compete with Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as well as several Android flagships like the LG G6 and OnePlus 3T, among others. Let's take a closer look at specifications of some of these smartphones.
The new Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch bezel-less ‘Infinity Display’ with 1440x2960 pixel resolution and a 3000mAh battery with fast-charging. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are powered by a Exynos 9985 chipset alongside 4GB of RAM, 64GB internal storage, up to 256GB storage expansion. Samsung's newest phones come with 12-megapixel Dual Pixel camera, 8-megapixel front camera, Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, and a USB Type-C port.
Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus, which can be seen as the biggest competitor of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, on the other hand, has a 5.5-inch screen with 1080x1920 pixel resolution, quad-core A10 fusion chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32/ 128/ 256GB storage options, 12-megapixel dual camera setup on the back, 7-megapixel front camera, 2900mAh battery, and Lightning port. The iPhone 7 boasts identical specifications other than a smaller screen and battery. The smaller iPhone 7 Plus sibling also comes with a single rear camera.
OnePlus 3T is another popular smartphone that might be available at half of the cost of the Samsung Galaxy S8, but it still packs a punch. It offers a 5.5-inch display with 1080x1920 pixel resolution, Android 7.0 Nougat software, and Snapdragon 821 chipset. The Samsung Galaxy S8 competitor comes in 64GB and 128GB storage variants, and has 16-megapixel cameras on the front and back. The OnePLus 3T also has 4GB RAM, USB Type-C port, and 3400mAh battery with fast-charging.
LG G6 may not be in India yet, but a launch is around the corner, and the phone has many similarities with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. It has a 5.7-inch 1440x2880 pixel screen, runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, octa-core Snapdragon 821 processor, alongside 4GB of RAM, and 32GB internal storage. This upcoming Galaxy S8 competitor supports microSD cards up to 2TB capacity, has a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, and a 3300mAh battery.
