Eyeing selfie-crazed millennials, Oppo has launched the Oppo F3 Plus smartphone with a dual camera setup in front at Rs. 30,990 in India. But though it is being promoted as a selfie phone, the new Oppo F3 Plus does not scrimp on other parameters either, with its 4000mAh battery, 6-inch display, and 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture being other noteworthy features. However, the new Oppo smartphone is likely to find the going tough as there are several good options to choose from, such as segment-leader OnePlus 3T, Samsung’s new Galaxy A7 (2017), and Vivo V5 Plus – another selfie phone with dual camera setup.
To solve your conundrum over which of these is the best option for you, we take a look at their respective strengths and weaknesses here in our comparison of Oppo F3 Plus, OnePlus 3T, Vivo V5 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017).
Oppo F3 Plus (Review) has dual cameras in front, a 16-megapixel 1/3.1-inch sensor with f/1.0 aperture, and the other an 8-megapixel unit. The company says the smartphone is good for group selfies as well courtesy its 105-degree field-of-view, and comes with a Smart Facial Recognition feature that recommends the best lens for photos. Other selfie-centric Oppo F3 Plus features include Selfie Panorama, Beautify 4.0 app, Screen Flash, and Palm Shutter. On the back, the Oppo F3 Plus has a 16-megapixel Sony IMX398 sensor with f/1.7 aperture, 1.4-micron pixels, OIS, dual-LED flash, and dual-PDAF.
Other key Oppo F3 Plus specifications include its 6-inch full HD screen with Gorilla Glass 5 protection, Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based ColorOS 3.0, 1.95GHz octa-core Snapdragon 652 SoC, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, microSD card support (up to 256GB), 4000mAh battery with VOOC fast-charging (claimed to deliver up to 2 hours of talk time with charge of 5 minutes), and fingerprint sensor in the home button. The smartphone would do well for selfie aficionados who want a smartphone that lasts long.
The toughest competition for Oppo F3 Plus at this price point is the popular OnePlus 3T (Review), which has the top-end Snapdragon 821 processor, 6GB RAM, and Android 7.0 Nougat-based custom OxygenOS 4.0.2 software. Priced at Rs. 29,999, the smartphone has a 5.5-inch full-HD screen with Gorilla Glass 4, USB Type-C, 3400mAh battery with Dash Charge (60 percent charge in 30 minutes), fingerprint sensor, and 64GB. OnePlus 3T’s front camera has a 16-megapixel unit with f/1.0 aperture, and 1-micron pixel size. A well-balanced smartphone, OnePlus 3T is for those looking for the best-performing smartphone at this price point.
Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) has a 5.7-inch full-HD screen with Gorilla Glass 4 layer, 1.9GHz octa-core Exynos 7880 Octa chip, 3GB RAM, 32GB built-in storage, up to 256GB storage expansion, 16-megapixel camera with f/1.9 aperture, autofocus and LED flash on the back, and 16-megapixel front camera with f/1.9 aperture. The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system-backed Samsung smartphone has a 3600mAh battery with fast-charging, USB Type-C connector, and fingerprint sensor with support for Samsung Pay.
Available at Rs. 34,490, Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) is perfect for the outdoorsy types because of its IP68 certification for dust- and water-resistance.
Vivo V5 Plus is another popular mid-range Android smartphone with dual selfie cameras, available in the market at roughly Rs. 25,000. The Vivo smartphone has a 20-megapixel primary selfie shooter with Sony IMX376 1/2.78-inch sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and 5P lens, and secondary 8-megapixel camera for depth-of-field shots. On the back is a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and autofocus.
Key Vivo V5 Plus specifications include a 5.5-inch full-HD screen with Gorilla Glass 5 display, 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage on board, 3055mAh battery with fast-charging, and a fingerprint sensor. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based smartphone does not have much over the new Oppo F3 Plus, but can be an option for those whose budgets are close to Rs. 25,000 rather than the asking price of the new Oppo handset.
