Obi Worldphone launched its latest smartphone at MWC 2016, the MV1. It will join the other affordable models in its lineup, such as the Obi Worldphone SF1. We got some time with the smartphone at the trade show, and you can check out our initial impressions of it in the video.

Backed by ex-Apple CEO John Sculley, Obi Worldphone says the MV1 smartphone is targeted at "young professionals" markets across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe. The Obi Worldphone MV1 features the same floating display design as the SF1, except that the corners at the bottom now follow the curve of the display.

The MV1 could be available with either stock Android Lollipop 5.1 or Cyanogen OS 12.1.1, with Obi's Lifespeed skin on top. The option of Cyanogen OS means users will be able to customise their device experience, from the icons and theme to boot animations and lock screens.

The phone bears a removable back cover, which lets you access the 2500mAh battery, two SIM slots, and microSD card slot. The Obi MV1 sports a fully laminated 5-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 SoC and will come with either 1GB or 2GB of RAM. Both versions have 16GB of storage.

The phone sports an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. There's Dolby DTS sound enhancement for media playback. 4G is also supported. The 2GB version is priced at $149 while the 1GB version is $139. We can expect them to launch in India soon.
