HMD Global unveiled its first set of Nokia-branded Android devices on Sunday at MWC 2017. The Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 were introduced marking Nokia's comeback under a new partnership. The Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 were the newest devices, while the Nokia 6 had already been launched in China last month. However, HMD Global used Sunday's event to announce the global launch of the devices. We spent some time with the Nokia 6 at MWC, and here's all you need to know about it in the video below.
The Nokia 6 is HMD Global's most expensive offering as of now, priced at EUR 229 (roughly Rs. 16,000). The company also announced an all-new Arte Black variant, which is priced at EUR 299 (roughly Rs. 21,000). The device runs Android 7.0 and will be launched alongside the Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 in APAC, Middle East, Africa and Europe in Q2 2017.
The Nokia 6 is made of an aluminium slab with diamond cut edges and flat sides, unlike the rounded Nokia 5. The top of the device features a 2.5D Gorilla Glass with a home button that houses the fingerprint scanner. The antenna lines at the back are pushed to the edges for a cleaner look. The Arte Black variant features glossy black body for a more premium look and feel.
The company's biggest smartphone sports a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display and is powered by a Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM. The dual-SIM Nokia 6 comes with 32GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB ). The Arte Black variant, on the other hand, comes with 64GB inbuilt storage and 4GB RAM.
In terms of optics, the Nokia 6 sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, and dual-tone flash, and an 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture. The device measures 154.00x75.80x7.85mm and weighs 167 grams. The handset comes with a 3000mAh non-removable battery with fast-charging support.
HMD Global has seen a tremendous response towards the Nokia 6 in China, which saw 1.3 million people registering for the first sale, with the initial batch having sold out in roughly 23 seconds. The company now looks ready to see a similar response the world over, once it launches in Q2 2017.
