Google I/O 2017 is the search giant’s most important annual event for developers, where it reveals what to expect from upcoming versions of Android and what interesting software projects the company has been working on through the year. This year, Google is expected to reveal Android O at Google I/O 2017 and all the new features in the operating system.

Google I/O dates and time

If you are wondering about Google I/O 2017 dates, it is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 17 in Mountain View, California. The event will begin with a keynote, which is where the company is likely to announce all new features of Android O. The Google I/O 2017 start time is expected to be 10.30 pm IST (10 am PDT). The keynote will be held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, which is the same venue as the one used for the Google I/O 2016 keynote. The conference is scheduled to last for three days, from May 17 to 19.

Google I/O 2017 rumours

At the moment, there aren’t too many rumours doing the rounds about the event, but according to the Google I/O 2017 schedule, the keynote will run for 90 minutes. This is a bit short for the keynote, and hints that Google is going to keep it crisp. Other than Android O, we may see Google announce its new operating system for smartphones - Fuchsia, however the likelihood of Google unveiling two smartphone operating systems during the same keynote is a bit low.

For some time now, there have been rumours around Google Chrome getting a native ad-blocker. There’s a chance that the Internet giant could make the announcement official at Google I/O 2017. The company could also announce when the Android O beta will be made available.

Since Microsoft has made its intentions of taking on Chromebooks pretty clear with the launch of Windows 10 S, Google may counter this by announcing something around Chrome OS. Chromebook hardware announcements are unlikely, but new features in Chrome OS are among the kind of things you can expect at the Google I/O 2017 keynote.

Last year, Google had launched the Google Home speaker with Google Assistant built-in. During Google I/O 2017, we could see the launch of an upgraded version of the speaker, or more announcements about how Google Assistant has improved over the past year.

Google Daydream VR headset is something that has gone slightly under the radar after its launch last year. At Google I/O 2017, we could hear about how the project has progressed and maybe even new virtual reality hardware. Google’s Project Tango has been progressing quietly in the background and we could hear more about the strides Google has made when it comes to augmented reality.
