Today's premium ultraportable laptops don't have to cut too many corners in order to be super thin and super light. Recent generations of low-power processors don't require a lot of cooling, and more efficient hardware and software allows for decent battery life even with physically smaller batteries. The relatively tiny USB Type-C Port has also allowed manufacturers to make laptops slimmer without sacrificing connectivity completely. Apple pioneered this particular style of laptop in 2015 with its super-minimalist 12-inch MacBook, and Dell trimmed its XPS 13 to nearly the same degree soon after. Other companies have also come up with their own products that aim for similar balances of power, style, portability, and price.
Lenovo Yoga S940 Summary
Lenovo's ultra-premium Yoga S940 is extremely thin and light, but while its name might suggest that this is a 2-in-1, it isn't. You don't get a touchscreen, but Lenovo has used curved-edge glass which looks stylish and modern. The keyboard is reasonably comfortable and the trackpad is quite large. There's even a webcam above the screen.
One great feature is that you can customise the hardware you want if you buy this laptop through Lenovo's website. Our review unit had a Core i7-8565U processor, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB PCIe SSD, and full-HD screen. There are three USB Type-C ports and you can charge the laptop through any of them.
Performance for everyday tasks was good, but this laptop does get warm when stressed, and you can't expect to run 3D games. Lenovo's Vantage software claims to improve privacy and security. Battery life was also good in our tests.
